Senior Mechanical Engineer

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field or be able to show evidence of experience or exceptional ability
  • 7+ years of experience, consumer product development (preference in wearables)
  • 7+ years of experience in product validation (Shock/Drop, Cycle Testing, Environmental Testing)
  • Experience with 3D CAD skills, ProEngineer and/or SolidWorks
  • Experience working with Asia-based component suppliers, JDM, CMs, and OEMs
  • Knowledge of Tolerance Analysis and Statistical Process Control (Cp, CpK)
  • Experience building wearables that meet the ISO 22810-2010 Horology Water-resistant
  • Brainstorming and ability to sketching on (paper and whiteboard)
  • Rapid prototyping knowledge for design exploration and risk mitigation
  • Knowledge of CNC and processing
  • Ability and desire to mentor junior MEs
  • Management and technical involvement of multiple concurrent multi-disciplinary projects with regular review, prioritizing, and reporting to all stakeholders, resulting in on-time and on-budget completion
  • Be able to be based in Asia (Southern China preferred)
  • Languages for communication required: English and Mandarin (Cantonese a bonus)

Manufacturing Process Experiences

  • Plastic injection molding (including 2-shot and insert-molding) to achieve pristine cosmetic
  • Metal stampings and forging
  • Die-casting
  • CNC machining (as primary or 2nd op process)
  • Compression molding, roto-molding, blow-molding
  • MIM Metal Injection Molding (full understanding of the process from E2E)
  • Extrusions (plastic and metal)
  • Laser-cutting and water jet cutting
  • Developing and setting Cosmetic limit samples ranges at both IQC and OQC
  • Fluent in material properties of production metals and plastics used in consumer products
  • Finishing techniques for plastics and metal (painting, coatings, anodizing, PVD, Sol-Gel)
  • Polishing process and finishing
  • Assembly strategies for plastic parts (threaded inserts, adhesives, ultrasonic welding, laser-welding, snaps,heat-staking)
  • Soft goods materials processing
